This journal is Friends Only. Comment here if you wish to be added to my friends list. I reserve a right to choose who I'll add, naturally, but mostly I'm quite happy to friend people if I've got some things in common with them.

I probably will be able to read and comment on my Yuletide story within 24 hours after the collection opens, but because I'm visiting family, don't have my own computer with me, am still recovering from illness and resting a lot, etc. if I don't respond to the story very soon, it's because I haven't got around to reading it for some reason and want to give it proper concentration when I can. But I will read it, and will comment, so don't fret if it takes a while.

Also, should the collection open only very late on the 25th, I probably won't read it that day because I'm on GMT +2 timezone and not a night person. On 26th I will spend a part of the day travelling, and don't know which part, and on the 27th I'll be working, so if I should happen to get something in Madness or if the main collection opens very late, these may influence when I can focus on reading my story, too.

I've got my Yuletide assignment in my inbox! And it's soooooo much fun!

Person who got my requests and is wondering when I'll post a Yuletide letter: soon, during this weekend. I just really didn't have the brain during the week, I barely got my own requests written on Monday before the sign-ups closed.

Dear Yuletide writer,

Edited on 21st October to fix HTML, apparently I can't use LJ-cut rights after more than 10 years on LJ. Now all my fandoms show. Last ight I had all these great ideas about what edits I should make to this letter, but now I can't remember any of them... Could be they werne't so great, of course. I did add a little bit to the end of the Tanz der Vampire part.

I tried to make this a shorter letter than usual because my brain isn't much good for anything, but I think it still ended up being really long, because when my brain isn't much good I don't know where to stop. Sorry about that. I hope it all helps you, but if anything I write makes you feel constrained or makes my expectations sound unreasonable or seems to go totally against your understanding of canon, ignore it. I want to read your story, not the one I would write. I'm just trying to include some things that can give you an idea of what interests me about these characters and stories, if that sort of thing helps you. But if any of this doesn't help you, ignore it. If you've signed up to write any of these fandoms and characters, you've really got a great taste, and I'm sure I'll enjoy reading what you come up with. But here are a few more specific pointers.

First, general:
- please no graphic violence, and this is really an important one for me. I'm very bad at dealing with reading about violence, and nowadays I'm especially bad at it because I've got a job where I'm have to read a bit too much about such things, so I really don't want it for my free time. Canon level of violence is fine, but please don't describe it really graphically.
- no rape/non-con
- nothing very bad happening to animals or small children

But while those things are a no, a lot of things are a yes, so do whatever you like. I like gen, I like het, I like slash and femmeslash, I like stories without sex and stories with sex, I like friendship stories and character development and family stories and adventures and dreams and almost whatever else… I've sometimes included some example story ideas in my prompts, but they're just if you need them - you can also write something completely different.

Now for the fandom-specific things, where I explain a little more about what I like about the fandom and why I've requested this thing and what I meant with it. My brain was pretty non-existent when I wrote my prompts, so I'm going to try to make sure I'm not leaving you with anything vastly stupid without explaining it better.

For musical fandoms I'm including which actors I like, but that's only so if you want to know that, you can look at them, get an idea of what I like about these characters and maybe get some inspiration. You're absolutely not required to write with any of these actors in mind or even have the faintest idea of who they are or what they do with the part. If you don't want to know, just skip those parts. If I happened to list an actor you hate, just assume I've got a different interpretation of his/her performance than you do, and continue to write the character however you feel best. The same if you happen to know from somewhere I dislike an actor you like.

Dear Yuletide Writer,

First of all, thank you for offering at least one of my beloved rare fandoms and characters. That clearly makes you awesome. So I'm sure you will do fine in writing my fic!

And though I tend to make my requests long and my DYW letters longer, please don't let that intimidate you. It's meant to give you ideas and starting points if you need them and provide you with an idea of what I like and don't like so you don't have to fret so much trying to guess my mind. But don't let any of what I write here restrict your creativity too much, and don't come away with the idea that you have to include all that I love about a particular fandom/character. It's just to give you some idea if you're one of those writers whom they help to get started. Also, though I'm giving prompts and suggestions, your idea definitely doesn't have to fit one of them. If you have a different idea, go for it. I promise I'm much more likely to go "Ooh goodness I didn't even think about this great option!" than "Oh no, not what I suggested!"

(I swear every year that this year I will write a shorter, more concise letter than the previous year. Alas, it didn't happen this year either. Also, don't let it bother you that I have more to say about some fandoms than others. It just means I happen to have spent a lot of time thinking and talking about some characters and have gathered too many things to say, but doesn't mean I'll be any less thrilled about stories in fandoms I don't say as much about. Or that I'll be more picky about stories in fandoms I talk much about. I'm equally thrilled by the prospect of a story in any of these fandoms!)

It's Yuletide! And I have an Alfred story! And I love it!

(And now I can start being nervous that everyone will hate the stories I wrote. :-D Luckily, the spirit of Yuletide is positive enough that in such a case, I'll probably never find out.)

Um, apparently LJ has randomly decided that I've defriended stellar_raven. Which is not true, because good heavens, I would never defriend stellar_raven, especially not just like that without any reason and notification. A good thing she asked me about it because I hadn't noticed anything and I've no idea how it happened. So, just in case this has been happening more: if you notice I seem to have taken you off my friends list lately, please comment on this entry (it will be made public). I haven't taken anyone off my friends list in a long time, so it's most likely some weird LJ malfunction.

Also, does anyone know what's the best place where to complain about this to LJ? I figure that if it's happening more, they should know about it.

Should be finished doing edits to this one. Hopefully it's not scary! I really have very few things that are important, and the rest are just prompt suggestions and guides about what appeals to me with these characters etc. that might be helpful but can be ignored. Added the optional details of my original requests.

OK, now that Yuletide Madness is open, too, I'm linking to all the gift fics I received. Many thanks to all writers! I've commented to all the fics individually.

So, asking for Alfred fic, I was spoiled by three.
http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2009/works/36985 Judging from posting times, my main fic ie. the pinch hit. A lovely pre-canon story of how Alfred came to work for the Professor and how he feels on the trip to Transsylvania.

http://archiveofourown.org/works/37462 A lovely Alfred/Herbert fic, I assume written as a Treat.

And a Yuletide madness fic:
http://archiveofourown.org/works/36856 A cute little story of how Alfred came to work for Professor Abronsius - and I love the ending. *g*

I also received a treat for my request for Szentivánéji álom fic, Oberon/Titania post-canon dealing with the consequences of the ending of the musical - love how the obvious problems created by that solution are treated and resolved. http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2009/works/37331

I'm also having fun reading other stories in my fandoms. It tells something about the smallness of the fandoms I like to read that there have been hardly any recs about them at all. I don't know if I will make any, either, at least not before the author reveal (worried about compromising anonymity by what I don't rec). I'm slowly putting together bookmarks of stories I've enjoyed as I read them, though, and you can see them here. But it didn't occur to me to use that function or the recommendation function at first, so some of the first things I read aren't there yet, and there's much I've yet to read.

OK, so everyone in Yuletide probably knows the archive isn't loading properly right now, but here are my first thank-you notes anyway in the case someone is looking here to see what I think because posting comments is well nigh impossible!

So, thankyouthankyouthankyou Yuletide authors!! So far I've gotten a notice for two fics, but I know from the number on my dashboard last night I'm being spoiled by even more, so once I can get on the archive to look I'll post about them all. Only one of the two has loaded so far - a Tanz fic, a pre-canon Alfred character study, which is completely adorable and lovely and Alfred. Thank you so much!!! Judging from the post time I'm thinking this was the pinch hit assigned after my original author defaulted, and the other fics are treats - in any case heaps of appreciation to both the pinch-hitter and

And the other fic is also an Alfred fic, which makes me very happy though I can't get to read it yet. I'm very curious to see what else I'm getting spoiled rotten by and I will read and comment as soon as possible! Heaps of appreciation both to the pinch-hitter and to other writers who'd write up fics for my beloved requests on such a short notice!

Now back to trying to get the archive to work and rereading the one story that did open...

ETA: Found out Yuletide Madness archive isn't yet open due to server load, so that's probably why I don't yet know what the rest of my gifts are. Anyway, thanks for them, too! I guess I have the whole Christmas Day to hit refresh occasionally and try to get to my fic... Eventually the Americans will go to sleep and the load will be less, there are advantages to being European...

ETA2: The other one opened, too! It pays being patient... A lovely Alfred/Herbert fic, thank you so much! Alfred is so delicious when he's confused and being corrupted. *grins* I'll post link to all my stories once the Yuletide Madness archive is also open, so that they can be found in one post.
